The Mequon Police Department sponsors a D.N.R. boating safety course held in the spring of each year at the Mequon Safety Building. 

 The course is 8 hours in length (2 hours per night); and, upon completion of the class, students from age 12 to 16 may operate a motor boat by themselves with parental permission.  The course fee is $10.00 and includes all materials.  There is no field test for this course.

 Students will learn about about boat classifications, registration, personal floatation devices, fire extinguishers, boat lighting, navigation aids, trailering, anchoring, boating terminology, and more.  The D.N.R. county conservation warden will also speak to the students.
