The detectives are responsible for investigations and follow-up, when such is beyond the depth of what normal patrol would handle. They are assigned and responsible for cases in which considerable resources and time are involved.
In addition to criminal investigations, bureau personnel are called upon to conduct background investigations on prospective new employees and liquor license and bartender applicants.
With the increase of internet crime, two personnel have been trained and assigned to assist in these computer crimes, which is more prevalent than ever before.
Every two years, upon application and approval by the chief of police, a patrol officer is assigned to the Detective Bureau as an acting detective. This assignment allows officers an opportunity to rotate into and gain new skills in a different area of police work.
