HISTORY
1958
Mequon's population was 6,846. The Mequon Police Department was organized in June of 1958 with Robert L. Milke selected as the first police chief. By September, the department consisted of one police chief, one officer, and one squad. A speed watch was purchased to aid in spot enforcement and overall check on the excessive speeding in various parts of the city. By December, the department moved into the newly-remodeled area of City Hall's basement, where the Fire Department had formerly been housed. Service was not provided 24 hours-per-day, and the phone was answered by the chief or the one other officer. The Police Reserves consisted of 24 volunteers.
In these first six months of existence, the following statistics were compiled:
Squad patrol….20,128 miles (1,792 gallons of gas and 21quarts of oil)
Traffic arrests/warnings included speeding, reckless driving, illegal parking OWI, hit-and-run, etc.

Patrick L. Call had been selected as chief of police. Squad patrol…514,766 miles(41,798 gallons). Officer training hours were 4,700 hours. Additional activities included Boat Patrol, Neighborhood Watch, School Liaison, Operation Identification, Bike Safety Program, and Police Reserves (30 volunteers).

Doyle Barker had been sworn in as chief of police in 1995. Other services included Citizens' Police Academy (began this year, 19 students), Water Safety Patrol, Bike Patrol Unit (began in 1996).

Steven D. Graff had been sworn in as chief of police in 2006. Service was provided 24-hours-per-day with the lobby open during these same hours.
